It's almost here

The Texas Renaissance Festival opens up on Saturday October 11th, at 9am. It's a chance to be transported back in time to a much heartier, lighthearted time. At least the New Market Village is lighthearted. The real Renaissance time was anything but, though there had to be snippets in each life that was thusly appropriately monikered. Lots of tongue twisting there.

I have been active in the Renaissance and medieval re-creation since 1983, though not as much as I had been in California, with the SCA events and such, getting everything geared up for my own, yearly adventures is plenty of activity for me.

So what goes on at the Renaissance festival? Lots. There are acts, activities for the kids, and adults, romantic things like getting your hands encased in wax and forever held together to be placed on the mantle. Though Texas heat isn't very kind to the hands, I learned that myself. A stroll through the Magic Garden, or even getting married at one of the Wedding Chapels. You could come to the Blue Moon Gypsy Tea Room and have us help you sneak in a proposal. Food, lots of it and so many different kinds; Turkey legs, steak on a stick, alligator, gyros, yummy olives on a stick, greek, chinese, fish and chips, the best german hamburgers, and so much more. Oh, and the fudge... cue Homer Simpson drool.

There's beer, beer and more beer. Definitely a must visit to the Brigadoon Brewery to sample their delicious Texas brewed Ales.

And what is beer with out wine? We have wine tasting, and lots of wines and mead.

Other awesomeness is the leather and clothing, boots, skirts, belts and nothing makes your day better than paying a visit to Castle K'zar to meet Raven and Kilber, and the rest of the tribe. I promise they won't bite. I can't promise you won't come out of there with out something memorable. Awesome folk, lots of fun there and fantabulous leather headgear. Must be the horniest place in the entire Village, just look at Lord Kilber!

For walking sticks and awesome staffs go visit Lady Mac's right in between Brigadoon Brewery and Castle K'zar.

Oh, and pay the dead critter place a visit (between them) and say HI to Brian, check out all his fox tails and other wonderful pelts.

This doesn't even touch on all the wonderful things to do and see, like the jewelry, arts and hand made crafts by wonderful artisans, like Lucia and her spirit inspired jewelry.
Face it, you can't just see the festival in one weekend, it takes several to even catch half of it.

Be sure to stop by and visit the Gypsies on the far side of all this awesomeness, you'll find us down at the German area near the Tower stage and the Beer Garden. Have your tea leaves read, or have one of our awesome readers help you find the answers through their gifts in the Runes, Tarot, Palmistry or Scrying.

Baksheesh!!
